Description

For a detailed schedule of this year's event, please visit: www.scholarworks.umb.edu/newomenspolicyconf/

It has been just over 50 years since the Presidential Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) issued its report to President John F. Kennedy, the Congress, the Senate, and the nation. It criticized the inequality women faced in many areas of American society and made a number of key recommendations on how to improve women’s lives.

On the 50th anniversary of the PCSW’s report, it is striking how many recommendations refer to issues and public policies that women are still fighting for today, from equal pay for equal work to paid family leave. At the Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy (CWPPP) at UMass Boston, we understand the importance of measuring women’s progress over the last five decades and renewing our commitment to making advances that have not yet been secured.

As part of this commitment we are co-convening The Unfinished Agenda: New England Women’s Policy Conference along with our generous sponsors:

  • Connecticut’s Permanent Commission on the Status of Women
  • John F. Kennedy Library Foundation
  • John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum
  • Maine’s Permanent Commission on the Status of Women
  • Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women
  • New Hampshire Women’s Initiative
  • Vermont Commission on Women
  • Women’s Fund of Rhode Island

The conference will be held every other year to allow us to benchmark where we are now and set goals for the future. This year’s theme is
Ensuring Economic Security for All Women and Their Families.
